Scoliosis Support & Research

Scoliosis Support & Research is the only UK-wide organisation dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by scoliosis while funding and promoting innovative research to improve treatment options. We also work to raise awareness and provide education so that medical facts about scoliosis are well understood.

Scoliosis Support and Research

Who We Are

In 2023, Scoliosis Association UK and The British Scoliosis Research Foundation merged to become Scoliosis Support & Research. Our charity is governed by a board of Trustees, comprising scoliosis specialists, individuals with lived experience, and experts with a dedicated interest in scoliosis as a medical condition.

What We Do

We strive to enhance the lives of people affected by scoliosis by providing essential services, including:

  • Guidance & Support: Our helpline operates Monday – Friday (9am – 5pm), offering emotional support, general information, and advice to those affected by scoliosis.
  • Specialist Referrals: We help UK-based patients find their nearest NHS scoliosis specialist and provide guidance on obtaining a referral from their GP.
  • Online Peer Support Groups: We facilitate support groups for individuals with scoliosis and parents of children with scoliosis. Our Facebook group provides a space for community discussions and sharing experiences.
  • Talking Therapy Service: We offer professional counselling for adults experiencing psychological distress related to scoliosis. Due to high demand, we are working on reducing waiting times to expand access to this valuable service.
  • Educational Resources: We provide up-to-date, high-quality information on scoliosis and related health matters to individuals, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Patient Events: We organise annual events across the UK where individuals and families affected by scoliosis can meet, share experiences, and gain insights from scoliosis specialists and treatment experts.
  • Research & Innovation: We actively fund and promote high-quality UK-based research into scoliosis and other spinal conditions, ensuring that new and effective treatment options continue to develop.
  • Awareness Campaigns: We work to increase public and medical awareness of scoliosis through various campaigns and initiatives.
